I have looked at the stars.
Gazed upon them with the naked eye until their fiery secrets were emblazoned upon my soul.
I have longed so badly to behold their beauty that I dared the heavens in their fierce brilliance to blind me, if it meant that for a moment, I might catch a glimpse of the eternal.
I have chased a constellation, knowing that if I could reach out I would instantly be connected to an ancient tribe of people lost in the desert. Knowing that on some other continent the lamplighters are at work.*
Dwarfed by enormity; caught up in the idea of the infinite, I am hurt with longing.
Some part of my heart forever consumed by beauty.
*The lamplighters are a reference to “The Little Prince” by Antione de Saint Exupery
